Be fresh, and be active all day long!

Some smells bring out the emotion of nostalgia and joy. The scent of cut grass immediately awakens warm memories of summer days outside. Lilacs in bloom conjure images of fields in bloom and the buzzing of bees. Sun-dried bed sheets transport us to childhood days spent in their comfort, and cinnamon in the kitchen brings immediate comfort and warmth to the home. Our sense of smell is an invaluable part of everyday life.

At a more fundamental level, our nose is hardwired to signal potential danger. Spoilage, rot, and unhealthy molds can all be detected by their smell, prompting us to take caution. Many households use products such as air fresheners, candles, oils, deodorizers, and more to combat these odors. Unfortunately, these often carry unhealthy side effects, causing allergic reactions and other health issues.

Ways of odor removal

To naturally eliminate odors, check for mold, mildew, or water damage. Clean carpets, furniture, and curtains to eliminate any lingering odors. Clean or replace air filters and open windows for better ventilation. Place dishes of activated charcoal or baking soda in the room to absorb odors, and clean surfaces often to prevent them from returning.

  1.   Clean and fresh drain and garbage disposals: Place a bag of chopped-up lemons and limes in the refrigerator to keep drains and garbage disposals smelling fresh. Then, once a month, pour a few slices into the sink or garbage disposal and grind them up. This will help to remove any organic food waste and foul odors. Further, you can use vinegar or baking soda to clean the pipes or pour a separate solution of lemon and lime into the drain once a week to keep it smelling fresh. Finally, regularly check and clean the garbage disposal to avoid clogging.
  2. Use herbal and natural air freshener:  Create your DIY air freshener with just a few ingredients in minutes! Mix one part of cheap vodka with three parts of water, and then add a dozen or so drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender. The vodka will quickly evaporate, eliminating the odors and leaving a fresh, clean scent in your home. Plus, it’s a great way to use the cheap vodka that’s been collecting dust in your cupboard. Enjoy a breath of fresh air!
  3. Coffee grounds for longer freshness: Once the source of the odor removal is coffee grounds can help neutralize and absorb the smell. Place the grounds into a bowl, jar, or other open container and set them in the room where the odor was detected. The grounds should be replaced with fresh grounds every few days, and the container should be rinsed out with hot water every few weeks. This simple and natural solution will make your space a whiff-free zone.
  4. Fresh and clean refrigerators and freezers: Baking soda is a great and simple way to freshen your refrigerator and freezer. Place an open container of baking soda on the center of the back wall of both appliances. Please note the date when you put it in, and be sure to change it every three months. Some baking soda brands even have indicators to remind you when it’s time to change.
  5. Air filtrations: Invest in a ductless heating and cooling system with a multi-stage filter. This filter traps airborne particulate matter and microbial impurities, helping to eliminate foul odors in your home. You’ll enjoy a clean, comfortable, and odor-free environment in no time.

Conclusion

Coffee is a great way to get unwanted odor removal from the air. The pungent smell of the coffee grounds soaks up excess moisture and masks odors. Try sprinkling ground coffee around the affected area, leaving it for an hour, then vacuuming it. Vodka is also surprisingly good at deodorizing. Place some vodka in an open container, then strategically place it around the affected area to absorb the odor. Baking soda and white vinegar are also great natural solutions to eliminate smells. Sprinkle baking soda over the affected area, leave it overnight, then vacuum. Or mix white vinegar and water in equal parts into a spray bottle and sprites the affected area.
